Add a WebLight effect to OBS as a browser source

Copy a clean, settings-included link from any effect's Share & OBS panel and add it to OBS Studio as a browser source, with no menus or controls in the capture.

Updated September 30, 2026

Copy one link from the effect's control panel, paste it into an OBS Studio browser source, and the effect appears in your scene with your settings, with no site menus or control panel to crop out. The link comes from the Share & OBS section at the bottom of the panel, which every effect has.

Get the link

  1. Open the effect and set it up the way you want it in the panel.
  2. Scroll to Share & OBS at the bottom of the panel and expand it.
  3. Leave OBS browser source selected and select Copy.

The link opens the same effect page with your settings written into it and ui=hidden on the end. The section is in the fullscreen panel too. If you switched effects in fullscreen, the link is for the effect on screen, not the one you started on.

Settings link gives the same address without ui=hidden. It opens the normal effect page with your settings applied, which is handy for sharing a setup or bookmarking a favourite.

Add it to OBS

  1. In OBS Studio, select + under Sources and choose Browser.
  2. Name the source, for example "WebLight fireworks", and select OK.
  3. Paste the link into URL.
  4. Set Width and Height to your canvas size, usually 1920 and 1080. The browser source default of 800 × 600 renders the effect small and then scales it up.
  5. Select OK.

The effect fills the source's box in the OBS preview, with no menu bar, panel or buttons. If you see the WebLight site menu instead, see Troubleshooting below.

If your stream runs at 60 fps, tick Use custom frame rate and set it to 60 so animated effects match your output. Effects heavy on WebGL work the GPU harder at a higher frame rate, so drop back to 30 if OBS reports rendering lag.

What a link includes

A link carries any setting you changed from its default that fits as a short value: sliders, switches, menus, colours and short text such as a name. Defaults are left out, so a link only lists what you changed.

Some things can't travel in a link. When you've changed one of these, the panel names it under the link ("Not included: …"):

  • Music Reactive. The microphone needs permission on each page, so it starts off.
  • Images, such as a clock background or a QR code logo.
  • A camera or screen share, such as Ring Light's center source or a teleprompter webcam background. These need a click on the page to start.
  • Passwords, such as a Wi-Fi QR code's password. Links end up in browser history and OBS scene files.
  • Long text over 300 characters, such as a long teleprompter script.

Content you build inside a tool isn't a setting either, so the panel doesn't list it. Slideshow's slides are saved in the browser you made them in, and OBS has its own separate browser storage, so build the slides again in OBS through Interact. A Bingo game starts fresh on every load, so its called numbers never carry over.

Sound

Effects with sound, such as Fireworks, keep their sound setting in the link. To mix that sound in OBS, tick Control audio via OBS in the browser source's properties. The source then gets its own fader in the Audio Mixer. If sound doesn't start, right-click the source, choose Interact and click once inside the window. Some sound only starts after a click.

Troubleshooting

The site menu or control panel shows in the capture. The link is missing ui=hidden. Copy it again with OBS browser source selected.

The effect is small or blurry. The browser source's Width and Height are smaller than your canvas. Set them to your canvas size rather than stretching the source.

The effect restarts when I switch scenes. Refresh browser when scene becomes active is ticked in the source properties. Untick it to keep the effect running. Ticking Shutdown source when not visible saves GPU, but the effect restarts each time the scene comes back.

A setting didn't come across. Check the "Not included" line under the link in Share & OBS. To set something by hand inside OBS, right-click the source, choose Interact, click inside the window and press Escape to bring back the panel. A change made this way lasts until the source reloads, so for anything the link can hold, copy a new link instead.
