Online Key Light: Set Up Screen Lighting for Video
A key light is the main light on a subject. WebLight's Key Light effect displays a lighting pattern on your screen so you can try side lighting for a call, recording, or small object demonstration.
The physical position of the screen determines the direction of the light. There is no on-screen angle control, and a display cannot match the output or reach of a dedicated lighting panel.
Position the Screen
Place the screen to one side of the camera and angle it toward your face. Start roughly 30–45 degrees from the camera, then watch your camera preview while changing the position. These angles are setup suggestions; the right position depends on your room and screen.
A second display or device is useful so you can keep the lighting tool fullscreen while viewing your call or recording controls elsewhere.
Adjust Brightness and Color
Use Brightness to change the strength of the displayed pattern. Check your face in the camera preview, not just the screen itself. If bright areas lose detail, lower brightness or adjust exposure in your camera app.
Choose Color Temperature to suit the room: try Daylight near a window, or Warm White and Tungsten near warm household lights. Automatic camera white balance may partly counteract color changes. Lock it if your camera app supports that and you want a consistent result.

Balance the Shadows
Side lighting leaves one side of the face darker. Move the screen closer to the camera for a less pronounced difference. For more control, put a second screen running Fill Light on the shadowed side at a lower brightness.
If glasses reflect the display, change the screen's height or angle while watching the camera preview. Raising brightness will make the reflection stronger rather than fix its position.
Know When a Screen Is Not Enough
In a bright room, or with the display far from your subject, the pattern may add very little visible light. Move the screen closer, reduce competing light if practical, or use a separate lamp. Screen size, brightness, and room conditions determine the result; selecting a lighting effect does not guarantee a studio look.
