The Bingo Caller effect draws bingo numbers on its own, announces each one out loud, and tracks every call on a traditional B-I-N-G-O board so players can follow along on a shared screen. It handles the calling and the bookkeeping; you handle the room.
Before you start
- A screen large enough to read the board and ball from across the room — a TV, projector, or big monitor works better than a laptop for a full hall.
- Sound turned on and unmuted, both on the device and in the browser tab, if you want the spoken calls. Without audio, players only get the visual ball and board.
- A moment of interaction with the page before you expect sound. Browsers generally require a click somewhere on the page before they'll let audio play — selecting Start Game covers this.
Set it up
- Open the Settings panel and review Game Settings, Display Settings, and Voice Settings before you start — Calling Speed and voice are easier to set once than to fix mid-game.
- Pick a Calling Speed under Game Settings: 15 Seconds, 10 Seconds, or 7 Seconds between calls.
- Confirm Enable Voice Caller is on if you want spoken announcements, and leave Caller Voice on Male Voice.
- Select Test Audio and set your volume for the room before anyone is waiting on you. It plays one random call and shows the number on screen, so you can confirm the sound reaches the back row.
- Select Go Fullscreen for the display screen.
- Select START GAME. A 5-second "Starting the game in…" countdown runs, then the first ball drops automatically.
- Use ⏸️ PAUSE / ▶️ RESUME to hold the game between calls, and 🎯 BINGO! when someone calls a win — it pauses calling and plays a BINGO announcement so the room knows to stop and check a card.
- Select 🔄 RESET to clear the board and called numbers and return to the start screen for a new game.
You'll know it worked when the ball bounces onto the screen with a letter and number, the countdown ring starts ticking toward the next call, and — if voice is on — you hear the number spoken.
What each control does
| Control | Options | Default | What it changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auto Start Game | On/Off | Off | When on, calling begins the moment the page loads, skipping the Start Game button and its 5-second countdown. |
| Show Recent Numbers | On/Off | On | Toggles the "Recently Called Numbers" strip below the board (last 10 calls). The main B-I-N-G-O grid stays visible either way. |
| Calling Speed | 15 Seconds / 10 Seconds / 7 Seconds | 10 Seconds | Time between automatic calls. Slower gives players more time to check their cards; faster keeps energy up with experienced groups. |
| Invert Colors | On/Off | Off | Swaps the dark navy background and white text for a white background with dark text — useful in a bright room or on a projector that washes out dark scenes. |
| Enable Voice Caller | On/Off | On | Turns spoken number announcements on or off. Off leaves the ball animation and board updates without sound. |
| Caller Voice | Male Voice | Male Voice | Only one voice is available at the moment. |
| Test Audio | Button | — | Plays one random call immediately so you can set volume before the game starts. Disabled while Enable Voice Caller is off. |
Each called number is announced up to three times with a short pause between repeats, so slower readers get a second and third chance to catch it.
Common setups
- Community hall or fundraiser. Calling Speed 15 Seconds, Show Recent Numbers on, Voice Caller on. The slowest pace gives a full room time to find and dab numbers, and the recent-calls strip settles arguments about what was just called.
- Classroom number practice. Calling Speed 15 Seconds, Voice Caller on. Hearing the number spoken alongside the letter-number display reinforces recognition for younger students, and the slower pace keeps the class together.
- Video call / virtual bingo. Calling Speed 10 Seconds, screen-shared to the call. Screen sharing usually sends video only — turn on the "share audio" or "share sound" option in your video app's share dialog before you start, or remote players will see the ball but never hear the call.
- Fast, experienced group. Calling Speed 7 Seconds, Voice Caller off if your players read the ball faster than they need it read aloud. Relying on the visual alone avoids the announcement queue backing up at the fastest pace.
Troubleshooting
I don't hear any numbers being called. Select Test Audio under Voice Settings — it plays one call immediately and shows "Testing:" with the number on screen. If you see the number but hear nothing, the audio is reaching the page and the problem is downstream: check that the browser tab isn't muted (right-click the tab for an unmute option) and that device volume is up. If Test Audio is greyed out, Enable Voice Caller is off. Playback failures never show an error, so use Test Audio to tell "silent by design" apart from "silent because something failed."
People on my video call can't hear the caller. Most screen-share dialogs send video only, not the tab's audio, unless you turn on a "share audio" or "share sound" option before you start sharing. Enable that option, or plan to read numbers aloud yourself as a backup.
I selected Start Game and nothing seems to happen. That's the 5-second "Starting the game in…" countdown — it's expected. The first number calls automatically once it reaches zero.
The caller's voice overlaps or cuts off between numbers. Each call repeats up to three times with pauses in between, and at the fastest Calling Speed (7 Seconds) a new call can start before the previous one's repeats finish. Switch to 10 or 15 Seconds if you want each announcement to complete cleanly before the next one begins.
The screen says "Thanks for Playing" and stops calling. All 75 numbers have been drawn — that's a complete game, not a fault. Select Start New Game to reshuffle and begin again.
I selected Reset and the game didn't start calling again. Reset clears the board and called numbers but leaves the game stopped, back at the Start Game screen. Select START GAME again to begin a new round.
